Week beginning 15.06.15

Monday is sports day. The children will be taking part in races for sports day from 10:30. Come along and cheer them on!

On Tuesday we begin our PIPS assessments which help us to check your child’s progress in Primary one. The children will be working with Mrs Northcroft or Mrs Will at the computer at some point over the next couple of weeks.

On Wednesday we are having our new primary ones in school. Mrs Northcroft will be in class on Wednesday while Mrs Will meets some of our new pupils and Mrs Fyfe will be in class on Thursday to let Mrs Northcroft meet another new set of pupils.

Handwriting – This week we will be practising the letters s, t and u.

Handwriting and Spelling Homework – Handwriting and Spelling jotters will be coming home each Monday with 4 words to practise reading, spelling and writing. Please read the information on the front cover and encourage your child to write neatly and carefully, following the example on the inside cover. The homework can be returned on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday at the latest, ready for the children to do an informal spelling test on the Friday.

Phonics – This week we are going to be READING, SPELLING and WRITING words with the sound oo.

Common words – This week we will be making, reading and writing the words only and old.

Please practise the words on the Fourth common word wall (found in their Home School Book). See if your child can match the words in their pot with the ones on the wall and then help them to try and read them. If the words are ticked they were able to read them in class.

Reading – We are continually working with the children to check their recognition of the 26 sounds, their common words and their understanding of text. Your child will get either a reading book or a reading activity on Monday and Thursday this week.

Maths – This week we will be practising our subtraction skills with numbers to 10.

Topic – We will continue our topic about the Sea and Seashore by learning about whales and dolphins.

If you have anything that you would like to send in for our topic, for example shells, pebbles, mermaid costumes, photographs etc, we would be delighted to have then for our display area and/or Play Zone. Thank you.
