This week we will continue with our PIPS assessments to help us to check your child’s progress in Primary 1. The remaining children will be working with Mrs Northcroft or Mrs Will at the computer at some point this week.
On Tuesday afternoon, the whole school will be divided up into their classes for the new session. Everyone will be visiting the classroom they will be going to and will spend some time with the teacher they will be getting after the holidays.
On Wednesday we are going on our class trip to Smuggler’s Cove and Aberdeen Beach. Please read the separate post about arrangements for our class trip and what your child needs to take with them. We are ever hopeful of a sunny day…but the weather forecast is not looking very promising at the moment!
Handwriting – This week we will be practising the letters v, w and x.
Handwriting and Spelling Homework – Handwriting and Spelling jotters will be coming home this Monday with 4 words to practise reading, spelling and writing. Please read the information on the front cover and encourage your child to write neatly and carefully, following the example on the inside cover. The homework can be returned on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday at the latest, ready for the children to do an informal spelling test on the Friday.
Phonics – This week we are going to be READING, SPELLING and WRITING words with the sound sh.
Common words – This week we will be making, reading and writing the words like and look.
Please continue to practise the words on the Fourth common word wall (found in their Home School Book). See if your child can match the words in their pot with the ones on the wall and then help them to try and read them. If the words are ticked they were able to read them in class.
Reading – We are continually working with the children to check their recognition of the 26 sounds, their common words and their understanding of text. Your child will get either a reading book or a reading activity on Monday and Thursday this week.
Maths – This week we will be practising our subtraction skills with numbers to 10.
Topic – We will continue our topic about the Sea and Seashore by learning about dolphins.
If you have anything that you would like to send in for our topic, for example shells, pebbles, mermaid costumes, photographs etc, we would be delighted to have then for our display area and/or Play Zone. Thank you.
