Weekly Plan – 23.11.15

untitled

This week is Book Week Scotland.

On Wednesday we will be attending a meet the author event at the beach ballroom where we will be meeting the authors of the three books shortlisted for the 2016 Scottish Children’s Book Awards.

We will read and enjoy each of the books and cast our vote for our favourite on Friday. We’ll let you know the result of our class vote next week but the official result will be announced on World Book Day!

Primary 1 children will receive a copy of each of the books in their Book Bug Bags which they we’ll hand out on Wednesday after our trip.

Reading – Your child will receive a new reading book on Tuesday and Thursday. It would be extremely helpful if you could work with your child for a short time each morning or night.

First night with the book – read the story together, look at the pictures and discuss what’s happening. Have a look at any words in the word pot and see if your child can find them in the text. Ask your child to read the text to you, supporting them when necessary. If they are stuck with a word, encourage them to sound it out, look for clues in the picture and the story.

On the second night see what they can remember about their book from memory. Ask them to read the text to you and then focus on words from the text, or in their pot, that they struggled with.

Common Words – to and do. Primary 1 homework will be given out on Tuesday and should be completed for the Thursday. Well done to the children for practising their word walls. Quite a few were able to read the entire set!!

Phonics – This week we will be consolidating o, u g, l, f and b. A new word making activity will be put into home/school books at the beginning of the week.

P2 will be reading and writing 3 letter words and will get spelling homework on Monday which should be completed for Thursday. These words should be practised each night at home, ready for the spelling test on Friday. You can see how well they have done as it is completed in the back of their homework jotter.

Number – Primary 1 and 2 will be continuing work with addition.
