The Scottish Government has made a commitment to update, strengthen and modernise the guidance on the role parents, schools and education authorities must play in ensuring all parents are fully involved and engaged in their children’s learning and in the life and work of our schools, as part of its joint Scottish Government / Convention of Scottish Local Authorities “Learning Together” Action Plan.

A full public consultation on the draft on the updated guidance, is running from Friday 24 January 2020 to Thursday 30 April 2020.

The refreshed statutory guidance and associated consultation questionnaire can be accessed at: https://consult.gov.scot/learning-directorate/parental-involvement-act/

At Abbotswell School we understand that parents may have concerns about their child from time to time. If you do have a concern, the class teacher should be contacted in the first instance. You can contact your child’s teacher by either putting your concern in writing or by telephoning the school to make an appointment. If you feel that your concerns have not been addressed, then you should contact the Head Teacher for further advice. Please see below, a statement from Aberdeen City Council regarding complaints:

Aberdeen City Council recognises the vital role that parents play in supporting their children’s learning and is committed to fostering positive relationships with parents. No matter how strong partnerships are, or how good our policies are sometimes things can still go wrong and there may be occasions when parents wish to express unhappiness or dissatisfaction with Council services, policies or staff behaviour.
